What is concussion assessment and rehabilitation?

A concussion is a brain injury that occurs when the brain is violently shaken. It may cause physical, cognitive and behavioral symptoms in both the short-term and long-term. A physical therapist can assess the symptoms to determine if a concussion is present and treat the injury by guiding you through a safe and individualized recovery program. Because no two concussions are the same, your physical therapist will examine your neurological, orthopedic and cardiovascular systems to create a rehabilitation plan suited to your symptoms and goals.

What are the benefits?

Recovery from a concussion can take several weeks, months or years depending on the severity of the injury and the age of the person affected. Your treatment may include rest and recovery and a therapeutic exercise program to restore strength and endurance, stop dizziness and improve balance and reduce headaches to return you to regular activity in the quickest and safest way possible.
